Ternyata, setelah analisis kimia terhadap jenazah korban, khususnya area wajahnya, Malaysia menyimpulkan ada jejak gas saraf sangat berbahaya,gas syaraf VX, yang oleh PBB digolongkan sebagai senjata pemusnah massal yang sangat berbahaya bagi manusia.
Menurut Pusat Pengawasan dan Pencegahan Penyakit Amerika Serikat (CDC), gas saraf dikenal sebagai zat paling beracun dan paling cepat bereaksi di antara senjata kimia, dan VX merupakan yang paling mematikan di antara gas-gas saraf lainnya.
Menurut CDC seperti dilansirCNN, Jumat (24/2/2017), VX dalam bentuk uap adalah bentuk paling mematikan dari gas pembunuh. VX bekerja dengan mematikan enzim yang membantu fungsi sistem saraf tubuh,yg pada akhirnya menimbulkan kelelahan dan kegagalan pernapasan. Paparan VX dalam dosis tinggi bisa menyebaban kejang-kejang, kelumpuhan dan gangguan pernapasan yang mematikan.
Jika ini (VX) dihirup sebagai uap, korban akan dengan cepat mengalami kejang-kejang. Anda akan tergeletak dengan lengan dan kaki Anda mengalami kejang, dan tak bisa benapas," ujar mantan pengawas senjata PBB, David Kay kepada CNN beberapa waktu lalu.
Disebutkan Pusat Biologi Kimia Edgewood Militer AS, zat kimia ini bisa diproduksi dalam bentuk cair, krim ataupun aerosol. Jika terserap dalam dosis besar, racun ini bisa mematikan setelah 15 menit. Karena itulah bahan kimia ini dikenal sebagai gas saraf paling beracun di dunia.
Menurut Pusat Biologi Kimia Edgewood Militer Amerika Serikat seperti dilansir kantor beritaReuters,Jumat (24/2/2017), VX tidak berasa dan tidak berbau, dan dinyatakan terlarang sesuai Konvensi Senjata Kimia, kecuali untuk keperluan riset, medis atau farmasi.
Sebelumnya pada tahun 2015, sisa-sisa gas saraf sarin dan VX ditemukan di sebuah lokasi riset militer di Suriah, yang belum dilaporkan ke badan pengawasan senjata kimia global. CDC yakin VX pernah digunakan sebagai senjata kimia dalam perang Iran-Irak pada tahun 1980.
